About Us
We are New Romney Am Dram, we create pantomimes, musicals and more!
New Romney Am Dram (NRAD) was formed in Autumn 2017, our first production was a pantomime called "Jack Frost's Easter Adventure" which we performed in 2018 over the Easter Holidays, which was the first time many of us had performed on stage!
With the success of the pantomime, we now perform 2 productions annually. Our second show is performed in summer and ranges from musicals to plays!
Our pantomime generated interest from parents and children, and so NRAD Youth was formed. This caters to the 10 to 17 year old age group. The youth section performs in their own shows and also supports us in our annual pantomime.
For information on membership and joining NRAD, please refer to our FAQs.

FAQs
A relaxed performance is a show that’s been adapted to suit people who might require a more relaxed environment when going to the theatre. Usually, these are adults or children with learning difficulties, autism or sensory communication disorders.
People with conditions like these can find standard theatre performances overwhelming or unpleasant. Common triggers are darkness, loud music, sudden noises and a generally unfamiliar environment in which you’re expected to sit still and quiet for a long time.
To make theatre more accessible to people who might struggle with these aspects, our Friday Matinee is a relaxed performance.
Some technical changes have been made to the performance – this includes quieter music, reducing loud or surprising sound effects and avoiding strobe lighting.
The atmosphere is exactly that – relaxed! The main house lights aren’t turned, just dimmed slightly. We also provide a ‘chill-out’ area in the foyer for people to visit if the experience becomes overwhelming.
Generally, people are allowed to enter and leave the auditorium freely, and there is an open attitude towards audience noise and movement.
If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us. There is limited availability for this performance so please book early.
On the other side of this, if you are someone who attends theatre and expects everyone to sit still and not make a noise, this is not the performance for you, please book one of our other performances, thank you.
Adult membership is for ages 17 and upwards. People aged sixteen and also in Year 12 are eligible to join. There is an annual subscription of £25. NRAD YOUTH meet on Wednesday evenings between 6:30pm and 8:00pm, at The Romney Marsh Comunity Hub, Sunflower House, Rolfe Lane, New Romney, TN28 8JR.(Meetings are usually suspended during school holidays).
We have a weekly fee of £4.00 per child which is payable from their second week (first week free). During the run up to a show we also fit in a few Sunday rehearsals 10am-1pm which gives the adults and children a chance to rehearse together and run the full show, details of these dates are issued nearer the time.
NRAD YOUTH is open to any child aged 10-16 who wants to perform on stage. They must be interested in either dance, acting or singing or all three, and they must be prepared to perform in front of their peers and an audience.
We aim to produce at least 2 shows a year including joining the adult members in their annual Pantomime. This is a fantastic opportunity for the younger members to experience a full blown production with professional standards of sound, lighting and costumes, in fact all aspects of the show are as professional as we can make it. As the pantomime normally runs over 6 performances we divide the younger members in to 2 groups so they only perform in 3 shows.
All our shows are supported by qualified licenced Chaperones who ensure the safety of the children throughout the production. We are always looking for more volunteer Chaperones, so if you are interested please ask for details.
NRAD and NRAD Youth are fully insured and take all member’s health and safety very seriously. We ask every member to wear sensible shoes (trainers), leave their phones at home or in a bag away from the stage area, bring a drink with them and be prepared to work hard.
Joining NRAD YOUTH is not like joining a lot of other youth groups. We are looking for full commitment from both parents and children to attend every rehearsal and perform to the best of their ability. We are all about having fun and building everyone’s confidence and helping them develop their talents.
